Analysis of magnetic and structural properties in La0.6Sr 0.4MnO3 ferromagnetic particles under the influence of mechanical ball milling effect

We have investigated the magnetic, structural and morphological properties of La0.6Sr0.4MnO3 (LSMO-40) manganite particles, synthesized by solid state reaction method. The resulting LSMO-40 powders were milled in air atmosphere during 3, 6 and 12 hours, by using a planetary ball milling. Samples obtained were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy – SEM and magnetization measurements as a function of temperature and magnetic field. A Rietveld analysis was carried on each XRD pattern, and was observed a reduction in crystallite average size (Dv) with increased ball milling time, tM. This is associated with a decrease in particle size. A characteristic rhombohedral crystal structure for the LSMO-40 phase was identified (space group R3C), independent of the milling time of the powders. However, from SEM microstructure was observed more homogeneity in the grain distribution by milling process. The results of magnetic characterization, showed that samples with higher tM (smaller grain size), presented the lowest value of the saturation magnetization, which is attributed to surface effects that induce magnetically disordered states with decreasing particle sizes. This magnetic anisotropy surface is evidenced also on the changes of coercive fields, HC, measured at low temperatures, which increased with increasing tM

Metaphysics and Occidentalism. Discussion about Eduardo Nicol's Ideas concerning Hispanic Philosophy and Hispanicity

Focused on the criticisms that have been made to some ideas expressed by Eduardo Nicol in The Problem of Hispanic Philosophy (notably the Greek origin of philosophy), this article contextualizes those ideas with respect to the basic purpose of that book and with regard to the conception of this thinker about science and human being, showing that Nicol's ideas do not involve an Occidentalist posture, but, on the contrary, they may provide a basis for critical thinking against this posture.

On the solvability of groups with four class sizes

It is shown that if the set of conjugacy class sizes of a finite group G is {1,m,n,mn}, where m, n are positive integers which do not divide each other, then G is up to central factors a {p,q}-group. In particular, G is solvable. This research is supported by the Spanish Government, Proyecto MTM2010-19938-C03-02 and by the Valencian Government, Proyecto PROMETEO/2011/30, and the first author is also supported by grant Fundacio Caixa-Castello P11B2010-47.Beltrán, A.; Felipe Román, MJ.

    Circumnuclear Keplerian Disks in Galaxies

In this paper we demonstrate the possibility of inferring the presence of Keplerian gaseous disks using optical ground-based telescopes properly equipped. We have modeled the peculiar bidimensional shape of the emission lines in a sample of five S0-Sa galaxies as due to the motion of a gaseous disk rotating in the combined potential of a central point-like mass and of an extended stellar disk. The value of the central mass concentration estimated for four galaxies of the sample (NGC 2179, NGC 4343, NGC 4435 and NGC 4459) is ~10^9 Msolar. For the remaining galaxy NGC 5064 an upper limit of 5*10^7 Msolar is estimated.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX, with 3 PostScript figures, Submitted to The Astrophysical Journal Letter

CLIL in teacher training: a Nottingham Trent University and University of Salamanca experience

    Get PDF
As English tends to be regarded as a component of basic education, most European countries, Spain amongst them, are issuing legislation to establish the CLIL approach in educational settings. The article presents instances of the implementation of CLIL in the area of teacher training which stem from a long established cooperation between Nottingham Trent University and the University of Salamanca, to show how the CLIL potential can be enhanced and new levels of integration beyond subject and content can be achieved when CLIL initiatives are embedded in larger Language Teacher Education Frames of Reference thus bridging the gap between different cultural and pedagogical visions and making them socially relevant

High angular resolution imaging of the circumstellar material around intermediate mass (IM) stars

In this Paper we present high angular resolution imaging of 3 intermediate-mass (IM) stars using the Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI). In particular we present the chemical study we have carried out towards the IM hot core NGC 7129--FIRS 2. This is the first chemical study in an IM hot core and provides important hints to understand the dependence of the hot core chemistry on the stellar luminosity. We also present our high angular resolution (0.3") images of the borderline Class 0-Class I object IC1396 N. These images trace the warm region of this IM protostar with unprecedent detail (0.3"\sim200 AU at the distance of IC1396 N) and provide the first detection of a cluster of IM hot cores. Finally, we present our interferometric continuum and spectroscopic images of the disk around the Herbig Be star R Mon. We have determined the kinematics and physical structure of the disk associated with this B0 star. The low spectral index derived from the dust emission as well as the flat geometry of the disk suggest a more rapid evolution of the disks associated with massive stars. In the Discussion, we dare to propose a possible evolutionary sequence for the warm circumstellar material around IM stars.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures.
